Recreational Therapy 

Our Recreational Therapy (RT) department strives to implement and facilitate inclusive and specialized recreation and leisure pursuits opportunities for participants that support a balanced and active life by providing programming that focuses on the 7 Dimensions of Wellness ultimately increasing our members quality of life. Our team of Student Staff, Volunteers, and a Nationally Certified Recreational Therapist work together to provide a multitude of inclusive and specialized recreation and leisure opportunities for groups and individuals.

Our Recreational Therapy Team works to provide accommodations for members to ensure they can engage in our services offered by The WELL.

Therapeutic Group Recreation

Therapeutic Group Recreational provides opportunities for participants that support a balanced and active life by providing programming that focuses on the 7 Dimensions of Wellness ultimately increasing their quality of life. Offerings include but are not limited to the below programs.

Semester Prep Workshops

Get a head start this semester by joining a Semester Prep Workshop! This workshop will help you gain skills needed to skillfully balance your time, so that you can work to create a sense of balance in the semester. Look for these hour and a half long workshops within the first three weeks of each semester. 

  • Dates and times (all sessions will be virtual, through Zoom):
    • Wednesday, September 14 - 12pm-1:30pm
    • Monday, September 19 - 2:00pm-3:30pm
    • Tuesday, September 20 - 4pm-5:30pm

Outdoor WELLness

The Outdoor WELLness series provides free opportunities for the Sacramento State community to engage in holistic wellness activities. Offerings will rotate every few weeks between inclusive wellness activities, including yoga, tai chi, mindfulness practices, and nature engagement practices. Sessions offered will be evidence-based for promoting mental, emotional, physical, and social wellbeing. The focus of these sessions is to connect students, faculty, staff, and administrators through easy-to-learn, easy-to-access practices for developing healthy stress reduction habits. 

Dates, times and location: Wednesdays from 12pm-1pm in the Sac State Arboretum

Inclusive Fitness 

Enhance your physical wellness through movement suitable for all fitness levels and abilities. This Fall semester we will be practicing Chair Chi & Chair Yoga.

Returning Spring 2023

Mindfulness 

Practice awareness of the present moment intentionally and without judgment. Mindfulness meditation practices refer to the deliberate acts of regulating attention through the observation of thoughts, emotions, and body states.

Dates, times and location: Mindfulness will be on hold for the Fall 2022 semester

Individual Recreation Therapy Sessions

Work with a Nationally Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to support your personal growth in your wellness journey. To receive an individual Leisure Wellness plan you can schedule an appointment.

Working with our Recreational Therapist will include:

  • Personalized goal setting
  • Leisure wellness plan
  • One-on-one Recreation Therapy sessions
  • Appointments will be on hold for the Fall 2022 semester
