Self Defense

Feel Empowered Join us for a powerful 4-week self-defense program led by Vic Vinson, a retired Sacramento State police sergeant, certified defensive tactics trainer, and former gang officer with over 30 years of martial arts experience. Vinson holds 2nd-degree black belts in both Shorin Ryu and Goju Ryu Karate, and has trained in Krav Maga and P.O.S.T. defensive tactics. His expert instruction is grounded in real-world experience and designed to build your skills and confidence progressively each week. Spring 2026 Class Dates: Classes are held Mondays & Wednesdays from 5:15-6:15pm. We host a variety of events each semester to keep you moving! Spring 2026 Events Self-Defense $20 registration fee; register through the Union WELL Connect app. Classes take place every Monday and Wednesday from 5:15 to 6:15 pm. Session III: Level 3 April 6-29th Group Fit Club Attend 8 classes between Feb. 16 and March 15th to be entered to win a prize. Yoga Night The special event is hosted in collaboration with UNIQUE and will be held in the University Union Ballroom. Buti Yoga is a fitness practice that blends vinyasa yoga with tribal movements for a unique total-body experience. About Intramurals The Intramural Sports Program offers the opportunity for individuals to play organized sports in a recreational but competitive atmosphere within their campus community. They have the ability to learn new sports skills, recreate in a social environment, and have fun with fellow Hornets. The program desires to provide sports and activities of interest to the campus community. Sports and activities are organized on a team and individual basis, thereby enabling all to participate. Leagues: Flag Football, Indoor/Sand Volleyball, Soccer, Indoor Soccer, Basketball, and more! Tournaments vary based upon interest. Alumni Membership Process Step 1: Join the Alumni Association The first step to becoming a WELL alumni member is to join the Sacramento State Alumni Association. Since The WELL is not open to the community, we require this membership to re-associate graduates with the Sac State campus through an active affiliation. Alumni can activate their Alumni Association membership online, or in person at the Harper Alumni Association. Once you have joined the Alumni Association, please come to The WELL's Engagement Center or Front Desk to show us your confirmation e-mail or Alumni Association card. Step 2. Select the Best WELL Membership for Your Needs The WELL offers a variety of membership options for Alumni who are current members of the Alumni Association. WELL Alumni Membership options Monthly Recurring Membership: are billed monthly and have a 4-month minimum commitment. Alumni - $35/ mo. Go Bould'er Go Home The Go Bould'er Go Home bouldering competition is an annual Fall competition! All skill levels are encouraged to sign up. Mile High Climb Climb 1 vertical mile at The WELL in February to earn the Mile High shirt and other prizes! Level Up Join us for this bouldering competition each Spring. All abilities are encouraged! Grow Your Garden Take a break from your day and join us in the WELL garden for therapeutic horticulture! Learn about the basics of maintaining a garden and engage in mindful activities such as meditation, stretching, journaling, and nature sketching. Previous gardening experience is not required and all tools and supplies will be provided. Dates: Feb. 24, March 17, April 28 Register Now Adaptive Sports The Recreational Therapy Department and City of Sacramento Access Leisure will teach participants the basic skills needed to play a variety of adaptive sports.
