Recreational Therapy

April 22nd, 11 am-1 pm Register Now Volunteer Opportunities The Recreational Therapy Department offers many on-campus volunteer opportunities throughout the semester for Sac State students. Volunteers will gain hands-on experience working with individuals with disabilities and will also learn how to use different types of adaptive equipment. Click below to sign up! Adaptive Sports (Fridays, 8:30 am - 11:30 am) The Recreational Therapy Department teaches participants basic skills needed to play a variety of Adaptive Sports. This program is done in collaboration with Access Leisure from The City of Sacramento. Volunteers can expect to assist with facilitating drills, retrieving equipment, and playing alongside participants. Therapeutic Horticulture (Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30 am - 11:30 am) Volunteers will participate in nature engagement activities alongside students with neurodiversities from two local Sacramento School Districts. Activities include but are not limited to, meditation, mindful stretching, nature sketching, garden education games, and garden maintenance. The garden features raised flower beds, adaptive tools, and a wide variety of plant life for participants and volunteers to enjoy. Unified Sports: Basketball (Thursdays, 9 am-11:30 am) The Recreational Therapy Department, in collaboration with Special Olympics, works with students with neurodiversities from two Sacramento Unified School Districts to develop fundamental skills needed to play basketball over the course of eight weeks. Volunteers will have the opportunity to facilitate drills in small groups and work together to coach a team of participants. No experience or knowledge in basketball is necessary to volunteer. The WELLZONE

Guests will have to show their wristband to gain re-entry into the WELLZONE from the stadium. Access to the stadium from the WELLZONE will close at the end of the third quarter and no reentry to the WELLZONE will be allowed after that point. Sac State Athletic Game Day Policies All WELLzone Attendees must follow current Sac State Athletics' Hornet Stadium Policies. Below are prohibited items: No outside metal, aluminum or glass containers for food or beverages will be permitted. Thermos containers or those similar in style will not be permitted. Sealed, single-serving juice boxes and baby formula/baby food are permitted. No umbrellas. Stadium cushions and blankets may be brought into the stadium as long as they do not exceed the maximum size allowed in the clear bag policy. Fans will be able to carry only the following style and size bag into the stadium: Bags that are clear and do not exceed 12” long by 12” high by 6” wide; One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag; Small clutch purses, with or without a handle or strap, not exceeding 4.5” by 6.5”.
